Day 1: Machachi 3,000 masl - Nuevos Horizontes Refuge 4,750 masl
Our Climb Iliniza Sur Volcano Summit adventure starts at the Hostel Casa del Montañero in Machachi at 09:00am. After checking our climbing equipment, the 4x4 transport takes us on a journey of a little over an hour to the "La Virgen" car park, located at 3,900 masl.  From here we start our hike through a forest of native polylepis, which then connects with the ridge that leads us to the refuge at 4,750 masl. Hot drinks and dinner are served, and then we rest until the time of departure.

Day 2: Nuevos Horizontes Refuge 4,750 masl – Iliniza Sur summit 5,263 masl – return to Machachi
The alarm wakes us up at 01:00 am. After breakfast, we pack up and head off, we start the day with the one-hour hike to the glacier and then continue with a technical climb which spans a couple of lengths of rope and traverses to reach a small ridge that leads us to the summit of this fabulous mountain – a climb of approximately 4 hours. Once at the summit we enjoy the view of several volcanoes such as Cotopaxi, Iliniza Norte, and Chimborazo. We descend using the same route, taking around 2 hours. At the refuge we have some hot drinks, pack up and head back down to the car for the return trip to Machachi.
