Day 1: Machachi 3,000 masl – Corazon summit 4,788 masl – return to Machachi
Our Corazon Volcano Summit trip starts at the Casa del Montañero hostel in the town of Machachi at 07:00am. We travel in our private 4x4 transport to the access point at the base of the mountain, where we start off across the paramo (moorland) at 4,000 masl. We arrive at a rocky ridge, with some slightly steep stretches, which leads us to the summit. After approximately 4 hours of walking, and many photos, we enjoy our packed lunch and start our descent by the same route, which takes around 2 hours. Once back at the car, we make the 1-hour journey back to Machachi.
