per person

Pasochoa Volcano Summit is famous because it is one of the first mountains climbed by climbers and mountain lovers who later want to go on and tackle the bigger peaks. It is an ideal start to the acclimatization process for the higher mountains like Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Cayambe and Antisana.

Pasochoa Volcano Summit is at 4,200 masl. This mountain is located between Quito and Machachi and has a crater with a forest that is home to diverse species of hummingbirds. In addition to its scenic beauty, and views of other volcanoes such as; Cotopaxi, Sincholagua, Corazon, and Los Ilinizas, it is also one of the first mountains that climbers ascend as part of a successful acclimatization process in preparation to climb at higher elevations in Ecuador.

Day 1: Machachi 3,000 masl – Pasochoa volcano summit 4,200 masl – return to Machachi
Our Pasochoa Volcano Summit adventure starts at the "Casa del Montañero" in Machachi at 07:30am. We drive north to pass through Amaguaña where we take a rural road to Hacienda Mettler. Depending on the state of the road, the car takes us a little further on and at the base of the mountain we start walking, following the path through the paramo (moorland) where we can see various species of hummingbirds – and if we are lucky, maybe even a condor! We arrive at the summit in an average of 3 hours, here we enjoy something to eat, take some photos and take in the view of the crater. We then return on the same route, taking around 1.5 hours to the car, and make the 1-hour journey back to Machachi.
